Sovereigns

The sovereign used in South Asian gold trading, including Sri Lanka, is a customary weight of 8 grams. A per-sovereign quote refers to the alloy being quoted (for example 22K/916), not to pure gold. This tool converts units; it does not tell you what any item is worth.

This tool converts units and price bases; it does not supply prices. Confirm the actual rate with a jeweller or bank, and note whether a quote refers to 24K, 22K or another purity.

About this tool

Method: Fixed unit arithmetic on the customary South Asian sovereign weight: 1 sovereign = 8 grams; per-sovereign price = per-gram price × 8.

Limitations: The sovereign here is the trade weight, not the historical British coin as a collectable. Quotes for different purities are not comparable without conversion.
