Sovereign (gold weight)
A traditional gold weight unit of 8 grams used in South Asian jewellery trade.
In the South Asian jewellery trade, including Sri Lanka, the sovereign (or pavun) is commonly used as a weight of 8 grams of gold when quoting jewellery prices. It derives from the historical British sovereign coin. Always confirm whether a quoted price is per gram or per sovereign.
