Silk
Fine needle-like rutile inclusions in corundum.
Silk refers to fine intersecting needles of rutile found in sapphire and ruby. Dense silk lowers transparency; partially dissolved silk after heating is a classic laboratory indicator of heat treatment; and oriented silk creates the star effect in star sapphires and rubies.
