Asterism
The star effect seen in some sapphires and rubies.
Asterism is a star-shaped reflection produced when light reflects from dense, oriented needle inclusions in a cabochon-cut stone. Ceylon star sapphires typically show six rays; the sharpness and centring of the star are key value factors.
