Chatoyancy
The cat’s-eye effect: a single bright band of light across a cabochon.
Chatoyancy is a band of reflected light that moves across the dome of a cabochon, caused by parallel fibrous or needle-like inclusions. Chrysoberyl cat’s eye is the classic example; the term “cat’s eye” used alone properly refers to chrysoberyl.
