Assay
The testing of a metal to determine its composition and purity.
An assay is an analytical test that determines the precious-metal content of an alloy. Traditional methods include touchstone testing and fire assay; modern laboratories commonly use X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for non-destructive testing.
