Why We No Longer Publish Indicative Gold Prices
By SriLankaJewellery.com Editorial Team

Earlier versions of this site showed a small panel of indicative gold prices for common karats in Sri Lankan rupees, clearly labelled as manually updated reference values. We have now removed those tables entirely. This note explains why, and what replaced them.
The problem with indicative numbers
Our reference values were honest about what they were: manually entered, dated, and marked as illustrative. Honest labelling is not the same as usefulness. A number on a price page gets read as a price, however carefully it is labelled, and a value without a documented source behind it does not meet the standard we apply to every other claim on this platform. Rather than publish figures we could not source, we chose to publish none.
What the pricing page offers now
The page at the same address, How Gold Prices Are Calculated in Sri Lanka, now explains the method instead: the international spot price, the troy ounce to gram conversion, the US dollar to rupee exchange rate, purity adjustment from 24K down to 14K, net gold weight, making charges, wastage, and how buyback and resale differ from the selling rate. Our calculators apply that method to numbers you supply yourself.
If a sourced feed ever arrives
Should we later adopt a documented price source with a stated update process, it will be described in the data methodology before any number appears on the site. Until then: for an actual rate, ask a bank, a bullion source or a jeweller on the day, and use our pages to understand and check what you are quoted.
