Sapphire
Gem-quality corundum in any colour except red.
Sapphire is the gem variety of corundum in every colour except red (which is ruby). Blue is the classic colour; fancy sapphires include pink, yellow, purple, green, white and the rare pink-orange padparadscha. Sri Lankan (Ceylon) sapphires are internationally significant for quality and range of colour.
