If sponsored content is ever introduced
It would be labelled "Sponsored" clearly and persistently, at the top of the page, not in a footnote; excluded from editorial sections, buying guides and regulatory guides entirely; and factually accurate under the same standards as editorial content. Sponsorship would never be accepted for content that evaluates sellers, laboratories or products.
Why the policy exists now
Publishing the rules before any money is involved means readers can hold us to them.
