Directory Policy
Updated:
The directory is a reference list of businesses in the Sri Lankan gem and jewellery industry. This page defines exactly what a listing is, and is not.
What a listing means
A published listing means one thing only: the business's public details were checked against a verifiable source before publication, and the source and a last-checked date were recorded. It is a factual reference entry.
What a listing never means
A listing is not a recommendation, endorsement, verification of trustworthiness, quality assessment or partnership. We do not vouch for any listed business, and no business may describe itself as "listed on", "verified by", "approved by" or "recommended by" SriLankaJewellery.com in its marketing.
Verification criteria
Before publication, a listing must have: a verifiable public source for its existence and core details (such as an official registry, the authority's public records, or the business's own published details cross-checked against an independent source); a recorded last-checked date; and no claims we cannot trace. Entries that do not meet this bar remain unpublished. This is why the directory currently shows few or no listings in many cities, we publish slowly rather than copy unverified lists.
No payment, ever
Listings are free. Placement, ordering and inclusion cannot be bought, and removal cannot be bought either, see the advertising policy.
Licensing claims
Where a listing states that a business holds a licence (for example from the National Gem and Jewellery Authority), that statement is recorded from a verifiable source and dated. We do not assert current licence validity, verify directly with the authority before relying on it.
Corrections and removal
A business may request correction of its own details, or removal, via the contact page. Factual corrections follow the corrections policy. We may remove or withhold a listing at editorial discretion, for example, where details can no longer be verified.
